Smart woman. Good information. I couldn't pass it up.
I am putting this out, just in case it might help someone else.
Some of you might recall I recently posted about a reliable Herx reaction that occured every 19 to 21 days while on IV Ceftriaxone....
It turned out to be a Mycoplasma coinfection!
The reactions every 21 days were getting worse, fever higher, large swollen glands, rash; then mycoplasma testing came through confirming a positive result.
Invasive mycoplasma infections have all of the exact same symptoms as neurological lyme and are NOT treatable with ceftriaxone.
This also fits with the 19-21 day cycle of the supposed Herx reactions, because mycoplasma has a 21 day life cycle. I had been wondering about this cycle because it did not fit the 30 day Herx cycle suggested in the ILADS literature
I encourage you all to keep a diary of your reactions to meds and see if anything fits a pattern like this.
Mycoplasma is hard to diagnose, you need IgG and IgM titers, and you need to show a 4 fold increase in IgG over a 3 month period to confirm it is an active infection. To order it with Labcorp that has to be written in with the correct code. I know there are other tests, I am just not aware of them.
From my review of the literature, macrolides treat invasive mycoplasma and must be taken continuously for 9 months, and work only if your immune system is in good shape.
The addition of zithromax to the treatment plan stopped the 21 day cycle of "herxing" and has resulted in a remarkable improvement in health.
