Well, it's been one year today that I got sick, with no resolution in sight I am posting here, since my friends and co-workers just glaze over when I even talk about this stuff - whereas you folks understand Nuthin' funnier eh? "that was last year" "you look fine". I was looking at Igenex tests and was wondering - is the best bet for me the "30-31kda Confirmation" test? I guess I have to do their WB panel too - but at this point, (based on claimed specificity) it may help close the door on Lyme - OR send me back to Dr Cameron! Oh, saw this on another forum posted by a moderator - "they say all you need to really prove lyme is band 41, of which you have a strong positive. and you have a couple other positives, and the IND (indeterminable) LLMD's consider a positive, it means they saw "something' " I have never heard that before

Yeah, well, there's a lot of exaggerated or half-truths floating around online; Lymies seem especially adept at jumping to conclusions and spreading "information" without due research ... I think it's just the nature of the beast, given all of the other "information" we get fed from various other sources. Where there is likely some basis to the idea that most people infected with Borrelia will show positive on band 41, we all know all too well the cross-reactions that can also occur with that band. Granted, many of those cross-reactions also indicate spirochetal infection, but I'm pretty sure there are exceptions even to that (if anything, noninfectious strains of spirochetes, which there are likely hundreds of). Enoch, what a terrible anniversary to be observing ... I wish I knew if the new Igenex test was worth its weight. Uncertainty, I know, if maddening. Continued illness, especially one that constantly changes in its level of disability and physical discomfort (while somehow sparing one's well "appearance") came close to sending me permanently over the edge. Research ... this discussion board ... debunking ... that's where I was able to reclaim what was left of my sanity. It's not much, but it's something.

I don't test positive for 41. I test positive for osp c bands and heat shock protein bands
Now, 41 is very specific soon after a bite from what I understand. But it isn't just specific to Lyme, and therein lies the problem.

That's so strange that you don't test positive for band 41, Nancy. Considering the number of flagella Bb contain, I would have to wonder if perhaps you are infected with a Borrelia strain that contains less flagella, or even one or more co-infections that also put off heat-shock proteins and 23-25 kda. I jumped over to the Unraveling the Western Blot thread and took a look at the cross-reactive proteins; have you had relapsing fever and bartonella ruled out?

41 band for me was +++ My LLMD counts IND as positive, too. although I had enough other +'s , the INDs were incidental.
